Get Fit with Paramount30

We have officially launched the newest program at Paramount—Paramount30—a short, straight-to-the-point conditioning class. No barbells and lots of conditioning! This class is designed to get your heart rate up and keep it up for the ultimate fat burning and cardio push. We use a variety of functional movements combined with endurance-based exercises to give you the best of both worlds in a very effective training model. First class is free—perfect for introducing beginners to the gym

In an effort to cater to more folks, we will be offering this class up to 3 times throughout the day with 10 total offerings throughout the week (growth will allow for more in the future). This class will also include its own membership pricing for those just looking for a quick burn or with limited gym time. Membership to this class will also include access to our two current HIIT Class offerings. The price point will be more affordable for those on a budget.

New Programming

A recent member survey indicated there is a need for more structured strength work in our CrossFit classes, so starting 12/17, we will be blending the current NCFIT Class programming with our Weightlifting Program. You can expect to see structured strength cycles in a weekly format focusing on several movements each cycle following a progression with a test-out phase at the end. The first cycle we will play around with the days and structure and then, based on feedback, decide how we want to move forward after the first cycle in February.

Tentative Programming Schedule

Monday – Strength + Metcon
Tuesday – Strength + Metcon
Wednesday – Strength Only
Thursday – Metcon Only
Friday – Strength + Metcon
Saturday – Mix Up

24/7 Gym Access

We are still pursuing offering 24/7 gym access with enough interest. We currently have 8 or 9 members committed to paying the extra fee. To gain 24/7 gym access you will need an Unlimited CF or Weightlifting Membership + $25/Month which totals $185/month. This is a great option for those wanting weekend access or day access when we don’t have classes.

Don’t Be Late to Class

May 3, 2018 by Christopher Douglas

late6x4While circumstances may cause you to occasionally be late for class, there’s nothing worse than people who are chronically late. Being late is doing a disservice to all of your fellow athletes in class. It disrupts the class, you have to have the warm-up explained to you while everyone else is off and running, we have to wait for you to come back from a run that you were told to cut short, etc. Our one hour together is packed pretty full of stuff, so you need to be on time or (dare I say it) EARLY and ready to go when the class starts.

Basically, if you’re on time, you’re late.

Plan to be early to class in order to sign-in, look over the WOD, and warm-up prior to starting. A good rule of thumb is to be at the box 10 minutes prior to go time.

There are few other things more annoying than watching a straggler turn up and think they can just jump into class as if nothing has happened. We know people have busy lives, and coming to CrossFit is just one part of the day. With family obligations, work, traffic and everything else, showing up on time can sometimes be difficult. Here at Paramount, we understand that. You all pay good money to be part of this community and get your hours’ worth of fitness and instruction. We never want to turn someone away, but when late arrival starts to affect the way we run classes, and the quality of the product we offer, it’s our responsibility to pay attention.

On a daily basis, our coaches are looking ahead at sign-ups to see who is in class and how many people they will have. This allows us to plan warm-ups, consider equipment and other logistics, and ask for coaching assistance if needed. Knowing who will be in class and having them all arrive for the start of class is a key component to being a successful program.

When someone arrives late or shows up unannounced it throws off the dynamics of the class structure and coaches have to make adjustments on the fly. In addition to that, its rude. “What are we doing?” is a common question we get from late arrivals – the fact is, you missed what we are doing. As a coach, I can waste time re-explaining it to you, or I can continue coaching those who arrived on time. That’s not all, we often have to adjust equipment layout, partnering, and time elements to accommodate late arrivals and those who didn’t sign up.

If you come in late, you may be missing the warm up, or the strength, and we may send  you off to just row, or do a simple dynamic warm up. Don’t get your feelings hurt. We set our warm up to be custom at the start of class with the amount of people in the class at that time. It wouldn’t be a good idea for you to jump in cold to a strength portion of a workout – it’s better to keep it simple or eliminate some elements of the workout to keep you safe.

And if you’re really late, consider whether its better to short-change your workout or wait and take the next class instead.

Why CrossFitters Need Yoga

December 30, 2017 by Christopher Douglas

All CrossFit athletes want to perform their best at what they love while minimizing the risk of injury and overuse. Let’s face it: Injuries and chronic muscle or joint pain suck. Do you find yourself constantly struggling with:

  • repetitive muscle strain or joint pain
  • discomfort from overly sore/tight muscles
  • movement restrictions
  • lack of joint mobility in key load bearing joints

Have you ever wondered why?

In this article, we’ll answer that question. We’ll also discuss how yoga can help CrossFit athletes unravel poor posture habits, and the multiple benefits that you can gain by adding yoga to your regular training regime. Here’s a sneak peak:

Benefits of Yoga for CrossFit Athletes

Yoga is a perfect complement to the sport of CrossFit and can benefit athletes of all disciplines, genders, ages and abilities.

When you get into the fitness habit of taking a yoga class designed with the athlete in mind, it will force you to slow down and pay attention to the body you bring into all of your activities.

You’ll be given cues to correct your biomechanics and opportunities to create muscular strength, endurance and flexibility in desirable ranges of motion. This will translate into WOD success naturally as time progresses.

This is an excellent article and I encourage everyone to read it. Then sign up for yoga with Cecelia—your body will thank you!
