What’s holding you back, and why do you let it?

The legless man in the wheelchair made a very strong point without saying anything.

On the way to the gym for a workout, I was bemoaning my situation and wishing I didn’t have to do a 5-kilometer run. My inner monologue alternated between bitching about my tight left hip and outlining the reasons I prefer power to endurance.

You know the drill. I longed for workouts involving movements in my wheelhouse, I pre-made excuses for a poor performance, and I thought about skipping the run in hopes of snatches the next day.

Then the guy in the wheelchair rolled by with a bunch of empty grocery bags as I was stopped at a light. No markets can be found in the area, so he was clearly buckling down for a long haul to his destination.

No bitching. Just getting it done.

After feeling like an asshole for a moment, I drove the final block to the gym with a much clearer head.

Of course the workout turned out to be exactly what I needed. What I suspected would be a lengthy period of suffering was actually a 5-kilometer cruise on a sunny day while surrounded—and lapped—by friends. I did my best, owned my time and got fitter. And I felt grateful that I was able to run.

As I soaked a sweat angel into the asphalt, I found it interesting that a man in a wheelchair had helped me lose my crutches.

Paramount Teen Sports Performance is a strength and conditioning program, combining age-appropriate weightlifting with high intensity training to deliver optimal fitness and performance, as well as establishing a lifetime love of fitness. Proper weightlifting techniques are taught, under the watchful eye of our certified trainers, to enhance strength and power, while also focusing on increasing agility, mobility and flexibility. Our Teen Sports Performance Class is designed to prep athletes for long term success. We focus on not just lifting weights but quality movement and safety.

What you can expect in class:

  • Building a Foundation for quality movement
  • Develop basic strength
  • Develop coordination and body awareness
  • Lifting weights in our program is an earned privilege for quality movement.
  • Develop Strength, Speed, Agility and Power

We also offer Sports Team training and 1:1 training for athletes needing more direct coaching from our staff.

fitcamp1FitCamp – not just a workout – take control of your fitness!

Paramount FitCamp is a core strengthening and cardiovascular workout with a wide range of bodyweight exercises and light weights.

If what you are looking for is a program that helps teach you about exercise, nutrition and has coaches to keep you motivated and accountable, then we’ve got you covered with our 8-week FitCamp package!

FitCamp package includes:

– 1 Assessment and Nutritional Consultation with a coach
– 3 One on one personal training sessions with a coach
– 2 Month membership to group classes 3x/week

The FitCamp program starts with a 1-hour session to learn more about you and how we can help you better. We then dive into a movement assessment to see exactly where your strengths and weaknesses are. Then we follow up with a talk about nutrition and how you can easily implement some new habits to give you a jump start on reaching your goals. The next three sessions you will be working one on one with a coach to learn all the movements you will need to know in our group classes. We want you to feel comfortable and confident when attending classes for the first time. The next step will be to join our group classes for two months where you will be working with a coach at each class. The class environment is friendly, high energy and non-intimidating – we all help and encourage one another as we push ourselves to complete the workout! FitCamp is a great way to kick start your new healthy lifestyle and empower you to do things you never thought possible!

Paramount Competitors on TrainHeroic

For years now, I’ve been developing programming for athletes with great results. Recently, I created Paramount Competitors, a competitive CrossFit program on TrainHeroic, to make my programming more accessible.

Paramount Competitors is a well-balanced program designed for athletes ready to take their fitness to the next level. Using clear and concise instructions on what’s expected for each days work, I explain how to perform the strength and accessory work correctly. The program is also designed to be used by gyms for their regular class programming, giving them their own leaderboards on the TrainHeroic app. It even allows for competitive athletes at the same gym to continue on and get in extra work. Everything flows really well so gyms can keep their communities together, even when they have athletes with extra needs.

Paramount Competitors has been thoroughly tested for flow and results before being offered to the public. We have more than thirty athletes of all levels and ages following this program with great results! This includes regional athletes, masters athletes and even athletes new to the competitive scene. Everything in the program is simple, basic and effective without requiring any odd training tools. The program runs in 6-week mini cycles with deload weeks and test out phases every 12-18 weeks. The volume has been proven to be moderately high but not so much that athletes get burned out or over train.

FREE Yoga Class Open to Everyone

We are considering offering a regularly scheduled yoga class at Paramount. To help gauge interest we are offering a FREE class open to everyone – you don’t have to be a member of the gym – to come try it out. An experienced yoga instructor will be teaching the class: Alissa Steep from Deep Kinnections. This will be a mixed level class so anyone can participate. Hope to see you here!
